National Ballet of Canada

“Life blood. Thought for the future. Cheers and more cheers. Floreat Karen Kain and her company.” (Financial Times, London)

Acclaimed as a prestigious dance company both here and abroad, The National Ballet of Canada is making a rare appearance in Montreal. Founded in 1951, it currently has over sixty fantastic dancers working under Karen Kain, Artistic Director since 2005. One of the leading classical ballerinas of her time and a former Principal Dancer with the company, Ms. Kain will be presenting Montreal audiences with an audacious program. As Giselle, Romeo and Juliet slip discretely into the wings, make way for Marie Chouinard’s exquisite 24 Preludes by Chopin – reconfigured here for 17 performers – and Crystal Pite’s amazing Emergence, a work for 38 dancers. Performed within a monumental set, it was the recipient of 4 Dora Mavor Moore Awards. “Reconfigured for a larger NBC cast, it (24 Preludes) remains a stupendously impressive stand-alone example of dance art.” (The National Post, Toronto). “Pite’s masterpiece (Emergence) encapsulates where ballet needs to go in the future.” (Eye Weekly, Toronto)
