| “Hofesh Shechter. It’s a name to remember. […] he shows that physical invention as part of a fiercely contemporary universe: pounding soundscapes, brilliantly moody lightscapes, changes of scene as abrupt as a flickering television channel.” (The New York Times).
A new force on the U.K. dance scene, Hofesh Shechter made London his home base in 2002. In less than five years, the Israeli-born artist has left his indelible mark on British contemporary dance. A former dancer with the Batsheva Dance Company, and also a percussionist and composer, Shechter has staged highly original choreographies, intensely physical and dramatic, in perfect symbiosis with the music he composes. His dance is robust, vigorous and razor-sharp. “No other choreographer combines such a thrilling command of rhythm with such subtle manipulation of spatial dynamics” (The Observer). Hofesh Shechter is here presenting Uprising, an energetic and muscular work for seven men, and In your rooms, “an arrestingly powerful piece” (The Guardian) for eleven dancers and five musicians.
