“A dazzling combination of controlled athleticism, power and grace.” (Boston Globe)
“With its spectacular energy and extreme versatility, RBDG draws upon the brutality of breakdance, the rigour of classical ballet, and the aesthetics and abstraction of contemporary dance.” (Voir, Ottawa)
A fusion of genres, desires, physical demands and innovations—this is perhaps the best way to sum up the RUBBERBANDANCE GROUP (RBDG). Formed in Montreal in 2002, the company has created an ingenious hybrid style that amazes, delights and moves. Embraced on both the hip-hop and contemporary dance scenes, RBDG is fuelled by the energy of both breakdance and ballet. The young troupe is directed by two artists currently in residence at Place des Arts: the charismatic Victor Quijada—who has danced with Twyla Tharp and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal—and Anne Plamondon, formerly with the Nederlands Dans Theater II. In its first appearance at Danse Danse, RBDG is presenting the world premiere of its latest work. Come and discover, in the intimacy of the Cinquième Salle, a troupe that has created a sensation in Canada, the United States and Europe!
