“The work’s [Les Chambres des Jacques] wonderful theatricality owes much to […] the fully committed performances by the dancers, who make us feel Ms. Barton’s weird and wonderful world as their own.” (The New York Times)
Enthusiastically received wherever they perform, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal [bjm_danse] is back. Incurably charming, deliberately nonchalant and technically irreproachable, the Quebec-based company directed by Louis Robitaille is offering a program devised entirely by its choreographer-in-residence, Aszure Barton. Without a doubt, the young New-York-based Canadian choreographer and protégée of Mikhail Baryshnikov has the wind in her sails: her works have been performed in New York and at major festivals throughout the United States. In 2006, Barton choreographed pieces for a Broadway production of L’Opéra de Quat’sous. For this Soirée Aszure Barton, (bjm_danse) will rekindle the “infectious energy” of Les Chambres des Jacques, in its Montreal premiere.
